Privacy Policy

The short version

  • Traveldae stores the trips, expenses, members, itineraries, polls, packing lists and documents you create, so your group can see the same thing on every device.
  • You can use the app without an account. If you sign in (Google or email + password) we store your email and name so your trips follow you.
  • We never sell your data and we never show ads.
  • Location, camera, photos and notifications are only used when you tap the feature that needs them, and you can revoke each one in Android settings.
  • You can delete a trip, or your whole account and its data, at any time (see “Deleting your data”).

What we collect and why

Trip data — names, dates, destination, budget, expenses, splits, settlements, itineraries, polls, packing lists, tickets
To run the product: split bills, settle up, plan. Stored in our database so every member sees the same trip.
Account — email address and display name (from Google, or what you type)
To sign you in and attach trips to you. Passwords are stored only as a salted scrypt hash.
Device id — a random identifier generated on first use
To keep guest trips together on one device before you sign in, and to move them to your account when you do.
Receipt / ticket photos and files you attach (max 8 MB each)
To fill expense forms from a receipt and keep documents with the trip. Stored with the trip.
Chat messages you type in the trip chat
Sent to our server and, when AI is enabled, to our AI provider (OpenAI or Anthropic) to understand the request. Chat history stays on your device; only the message being processed and a trimmed snapshot of the trip are sent.
Location (foreground) — when you open Weather, Explore or Emergency & Safety
To show local weather, nearby places, and to share your position with people you choose. Nothing is stored unless you start a live-location share.
Location (background) — only while a live-location share you started is running
To keep the share updating when the screen is off. It stops automatically at the time limit you chose (max 8 hours) or when you tap Stop.
Live-location share
Your positions for that share are stored under a random link id for its duration and deleted when it ends.
Notifications
Local notifications on your device only (trip reminders, group activity while the app is open). We do not run a push server.
Diagnostics — crash reports and anonymous usage events (screens opened, features used)
To find bugs and see which features matter. Only when the app is built with a diagnostics key; no message contents or amounts are included.

Who else sees your data

  • Members of your trip see everything in that trip — that is the point of a shared trip.
  • Hosting and database: Vercel (application hosting) and MongoDB Atlas (database), both under standard data-processing terms.
  • AI: OpenAI or Anthropic receive the chat message being processed and a trimmed trip snapshot. They are contractually barred from training on this data under their API terms.
  • Email: Resend delivers account emails (for example your generated password) when email is enabled.
  • Weather and places: Open-Meteo and BigDataCloud receive approximate coordinates to return weather and a place name. No account identifier is sent.
  • Diagnostics: Sentry (crashes) and PostHog (usage) when enabled.
  • We do not sell, rent or share your data with advertisers.

Where and how long

Data is stored on MongoDB Atlas. Trips stay until you delete them. Live-location shares are deleted when they end. Account data is deleted when you delete your account. Backups roll off within 30 days.

Deleting your data

  • A trip: open the trip → menu → Trip settings → Delete trip. This removes the trip and its documents for everyone.
  • Your account and everything in it: email [email protected] from the address you signed up with, or use “Delete account” in the app’s account sheet where available. We delete within 7 days and confirm by email.
  • Guest data (no account): clearing the app’s storage on your device removes the device id; trips made as a guest can be deleted from inside the app.

Every permission is optional. Deny it and the related feature is simply unavailable; the rest of the app keeps working.

Children

Traveldae is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
